The Florida Grasshopper Sparrow is North America’s most imperiled bird. A nonmigratory ground-nesting species, it’s been beset by fragmentation and loss of grassland habitat, lack of sufficiently frequent fire, predation, and flooding. Our Foundation is working with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service, White Oak Conservation, the American Bird Conservancy, and others to prevent the sparrow’s extinction.
